ONE! - The celebration

Only we didn't really have a celebration.

We took the mandatory first birthday photos. This was the one of the better ones.

We opened up her presents and she loves this Lettersaurus to bits.
(She didn't even care about the present I got her. It was Hape's "Hello! It's me" shape sorting puzzle.)

I know I have been picky about toys. Especially plastic toys. But this Leapfrog one is good. 26 tunes, 26 letter and the sounds the letter makes, and colours.
My ex-neighbour is always so good with gifts.

I'd love to have a party and have those who love J share this special day with us.
Then I thought it was no point getting all stressed up over the decoration and crowd. Mainly the decorations and food because I'm picky about how photo-friendly they are. So we didn't.

I had plans for a small and cosy celebration but at the end of the day, I chose to have just the three of us. I see that as making up for lost time during J's first few weeks due to that not-worth-mentioning-anymore incident and that was really important to me.

We shouldn't deprive her of fun though so we went to the zoo!
J didn't need to pay for admission but I wanted her to have the badge.
It comes with these perks.

She got to walk and run around and she was so happy.
In fact she chose to walk and run most of the time.

We saw the animals we see in her picture books.

Then when she fell asleep, we realise that it coincide with most of the animals' naptime.
We thought we could explore the zoo a bit more while J was sleeping but we didn't get to see that many animals.
They were all napping!

We ended the day with a store-bought birthday cake because we didn't have time to bake her one.
(Our previous experiments failed. Clearly, we don't bake well. But that's my target for next year! A homemade birthday cake.)

J picked out Hello Kitty because, it's a cat. She loves cats.

We had a very different birthday celebration from my ideals.

There was no beautiful decorations.
The photos didn't turn out perfect.
But we were happy.
Possibly happier than if we were to throw a party.
