All three of us caught a cold over the weekend so no mooncakes, no participation in any lantern processions, no extended family dinners, no checking out of those lovely lanterns at Gardens by the Bay for us this year. Thank goodness we had the paper lanterns.
We did, however, walk around the dark house with J's lantern her nainai got her, for about ten minutes. Ten minutes is a long time in "when-you-have-a-baby" terms. The husband held the lantern (because J can't. Yet.) and J held onto her daddy's hand. I hummed some silly, random and hopefully Chinese-sounding tune as we walked all over the living room, to the rooms, and back, and back again. At one point I think I accidentally hummed a Christmas tune but it's ok. J seemed to enjoy herself, her daddy looks happy to see J happy, and that's all that matters to me. Never mind if my back is protesting right now.
It's barely a celebration but I believe all three of us enjoyed ourselves. I think it will be even better next year when J is old enough to hold her lantern and participate in a lantern procession.
So before the day ends,
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
中秋节快乐!
