Play.
So easy, yet so difficult.
I've been searching for pins on Pinterest during my pregnancy, and I was particularly interested in reading up on activities for babies.
Sensory play.
Montessori.
Waldorf.
Glenn-Doman.
I contemplated doing right-brain training, you know, flash cards and all.
Because everyone is doing it, no?
And isn't it cute to have your baby identify flags of countries and know their ABCs?
Almost immediately I find another article saying that learning at such an early age may not be good for babies as it kills creativity.
Then some Facebook post talks about how to raise a brilliant child, as I see stuff like "My baby can read!"
Then, I spot another article encouraging unstructured play.
-.-"
So I swayed from right- brain training to unstructured play to teaching my child to read to just plain ol' play.
This thing never ends, does it?
Now that Lil' J is 6 months old, I feel the need to provide her with the necessary resources to help in her development.
After a discussion with the husband who expresses that he wishes it to be "as natural as possible" (he's all about going natural lately), I think I'm going to hold off flash cards for a while.
Right now, I'll let Lil' J engage in free play by providing her with appropriate toys (I hope so).
I'll worry about the rest tomorrow.
Maybe next week.
Perhaps 5 years later.
